Combining sweet and savory in a meal may appear to be an unlikely combination for some, however it is a common culinary technique used by chefs. Think of a hamburger and soda, or a sweet barbeque sauce with a savory side of ribs. By using this approach with a sweet fruit and a salty cheese, it can be a winning appetizer for a summertime meal. – Karen Russin, MSc, RD, CDN

10 oz feta
4 ½ cups large chunks of watermelon
¾ cups basil leaves
½ small red onion, very thinly sliced
